Shielaugh V. Divelbiss

Illustrator; Designer; Art Director; and Fun Person San Francisco, CA and New York, CA

I love to design, draw and take pictures. When I am not doing those things I am cooking elaborate meals from scratch, watching horror movies, or at the beach.

Hi! I'm Shielaugh (sounds like Sheila). I am San Francisco based illustrator and designer who loves drawing, beautiful typography and telling compelling stories.

I grew up in the tiny state of Rhode Island, located in picturesque New England. I come from a science and medical family, so briefly thought that it would be fun to be a surgeon or marine biologist, but my life long love of all things art prevailed. It was during my high school chemistry class where I decided what type of arts to pursue — commercial arts — because while creating my lab reports, I first discovered layout design and how to tell a story with text and pictures (which earned me bonus points —Thanks Mr. King), now if only I had InDesign back then.

My thee current areas of focus are (1) marketing design, (2) editorial projects and (3) gallery work; though I am always open to other types of illustration and design focused inquires! I have an illustration, design, marketing and front-end background. I love to play in the intersection of digital (web and mobile) and physical (packaging, magazines, books and installations), especially projects that span different mediums and in interesting ways.

Currently, I design marketing materials and cross-platform campaigns for a boutique commercial real estate company, where my Opinion of Value and Offering Memorandum layouts receive praise for their editorial influenced style.

Previously, I worked on the Abutech, LLC team as their Art Director helping to shape their brand and create beautiful children's books, text books, apps and websites; to address social issues. Prior to that I worked as a coordinator for a city government, where was the the resident art and marketing guru. It is there, where I first learned to make the most out of impossibly tiny budgets. Clearly I love positions where I can wear a lot of different hats, and I'm not afraid of a challenge.

A lot of my work is inspired by the natural world, places I have lived, curio cabinets, superstitions, holidays, medicine, politics and folklore which are a part of our childhood and adult culture. Ideally I would love a position designing or art directing for a company that has some health, science, exploring, cooking or fashion theme, and is also expanding to web and mobile (or hopefully already there).

I'm pretty fun to work with. Want to meet up and talk about your project or a position at your company? Let's have some coffee or pizza together, you name the place.
